We are proud to refer that our exhibition will open on friday 30th of july, 8pm in Karlsruhe. TALKING TYPE – SCHRIFTMASCHINEN shows our approach to type design which differs from the common way in discussing spacing. What we are more interested in is to use typedesign to shape matters of content.
That way letters begin to tell their own stories and are far more than a tool made for being unremarkable.

OPENING ON FRIDAY, 30th July
9 pm: Opening remarks by Flo Gaertner, slanted magazine
9.30 pm: Performance by Felix Vorreiter

Here is some information about the exhibition.

It will be open from 31th July – 10th August, daily from 2pm to 9pm.
We serve cool beer on our terrace.

Camera Catalogue

The Catalogue is made by the visitor itself. You can get a single-way-camera there and photograph the exhibits. After developping you get the catalogue as 27 prints. Then also will be revealed the explanations and theoretical text.

Here you can order your catalogue if you will not be in Karlsruhe during the exhibition. [12 Euro]

An exhibition of design projects by european students.
Initiated and curated by Avoid Red Arrows, collective for type design Karlsruhe.

We appeal design students to submit projects, that address issues with typography.
Here the letters may be more than a tool, they are core, show substance through shape.
TALKING TYPE sets an yet unseen focus and shows surprising facets of design.
The powerful ideas of young designers enter the stage, rules of traditional typography are to take a back seat.

Until the 15th of June students could submit projects and ideas.
The exhibition will take place in Juli in Karlsruhe.

Unsere Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe wird vom 13. bis 16. Mai 2010 das erste Kunst- und Designcamp für Schülerinnen und Schüler veranstalten. An vier Tagen werden für 100 Schüler/innen zwischen 16 und 19 Jahren mehr als 20 Workshops angeboten. Die Workshops werden von Studenten aller Fachbereiche betreut.

Wer sich zu diesem intensiven, kreativen, verlängerten Wochen-
ende anmelden möchte kann dies auf dieser Internetseite tun.
man sollte sich beeilen, denn die Plätze sind auf 100 Teilnehmer beschränkt. Vorraussetzungen gibt es neben Kreativität und Spaß keine.
Es wird auch einen Workshop über Schriftgestaltung mit Avoid Red Arrows geben.

Christoph Spatschek provides now the first variation of his font “ZOPF”. The negative style is good to print (even in small sizes) and to mix with the regular style. You also can apply color to your Zopf design.

Heute präsentieren wir euch – liebe Leser – unsere neueste Anschaffung: »Pilot Letters« von Daniel Schludi.
Die Schrift entstand in Anlehnung an Schreiblernschriften und gewährleistet durch ihre einfach gestalteten Buchstabenformen die Lesbarkeit im Fließtext. Wer gerne den Einzelcharakter der Schriftart wirken lassen möchte, nutzt sie für Plakate oder Überschriften.
Zwei Schnitte, Regular & Extra, die wichtigsten Ligaturen und die Zeichen für westeuropäische Schriftsätze lassen wenig Wünsche offen.

MAUREN is a headline font drawn by Peter Stahmer in summer 2009.
Mauren arose at a train station in north spain I had to spend 12 hours at. I copied the inscription and considered its look in capitals. So a beautiful “R” appeared in my sketchbook which longed for companion. So it was my job to get it in good company. It was good to have this “R”eference with a distinct nature to keep the balance between plenty and excessive character.

Avoid Red Arrows und das Team der Konferenz Designblast sind Träger des diesjährigen Förderpreises der Gunther-Schroff-Stiftung . Die feierliche Verleihung fand am 29.10.2009 im Medientheater des ZKM statt.

Steffi Miller konnte an diesem Abend nicht dabei sein, da sie gerade ein Semester in Eindhoven verbringt.

TYPE CAMP #3 – Temp Typo

Alles ist vergänglich und nichts von ewigem Bestand.
Es gibt temporäre Architektur, unser Computer erstellt temporäre Dateien, wir haben temporäre Jobs – lasst uns temporäre Typografie machen.
Wir haben drei Tage hart gearbeitet, nur um am Ende wieder vor dem Nichts zu stehen.

In den nächsten Tagen werden alle Dokumentationen hier zu sehen sein.
